- Maximun speed
- 100 mph
Originally built for the West Coast Main Line north of Crewe, upon electrifacation they were transferred to the Western region. Upon introduction of the HST they were transferred to secondary routes including the Waterloo-Exeter Route. This class was Initially Unpopular with Enthusiasts, firstly for displacing steam in the north west and latterly for replacing Diesil Hydraulics on the Western Region. However almost half of the class has now been preserved.
